What if the role was designed for more than the system could support?
“Is the glass half full or half empty?”
Consultant: Let’s schedule a workshop to discuss the glass.
Pessimist: Half empty.
Optimist: Half full.
But in needs assessment, someone eventually asks the practical question:
“Wait… how much water should this glass actually have?”
Think of it this way:
The glass is the role,
and the water is the capability needed to do it well.
So instead of debating optimism vs pessimism, we ask:
• What level of capability does the role require?
• What capability is already there?
• And what learning or support could help close the gap?
Because many “performance problems” turn out to be something else entirely:
a half-glass capability system supporting a full-glass expectation.
