Six months later, automation handled the majority of requests consistently and safely.

The tools were the same.
The capability around them wasn’t.

Company B had:
• Data infrastructure that could actually feed reliable inputs to models
• Engineering teams trained to evaluate AI outputs critically
• Product thinking that understood where AI should assist vs. decide
• Quality systems that caught failures before customers did

They had invested in delivery discipline long before the new technology arrived. And just like in elite competition, results don’t come from a single innovation; they come from capability developed over time.

In competition, starting early doesn’t guarantee winning.
