Do we need more AI engineers?

Do we need more AI engineers? I think that's the wrong question.
The skills required for AI-exposed jobs are changing more than twice as fast as those for other jobs, according to PwC’s 2026 Global AI Jobs Barometer.

That doesn't mean the demand is limited to machine learning specialists.
It means almost every technical role is evolving.

We need software engineers who can work effectively with AI.
QA engineers who know how to validate AI-generated code.
Architects who understand where AI belongs - and where it doesn't.
Project managers who can lead teams where people and AI agents work side by side.

The competitive advantage comes from identifying people who can apply AI effectively, while bringing the judgement and expertise to know when and how to use it.
